About Animahenasyon

Animahenasyon is an annual Filipino animation festival that features the different animation works of both aspiring and professional animators in the country through a competition. Also part of the festival is the animation master classes, animation congress, and exhibits of the works of seasoned animators and lifetime achievement awardees. Animahenasyon serves as a venue for Filipino animators to present their world-class ideas, to open doors of opportunities, and a chance for them to meet and be inspired by the finest names in the industry.

chong150 Jose Santos “Chong” Ardivilla graduated cum laude with a degree in Fine Arts from University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus at a time when his waistline was bordering between the 20s and 30s. After gaining almost 100 pounds later, he is now a cartoonist and teaches at the UP Manila. His first job was to be an editorial cartoonist and censorship became his companion. He is finishing his Masters in Art History at UP Diliman. Chong also serves as the Filipino desk editor for Wittyworld.com, an online site promoting and protecting freedom of expression in cartoons all over the world. Chong is also a published writer. He has been selected as one of the outstanding professors in UP Manila’s College of Arts and Sciences. He cannot burp at will nor flare his nose voluntarily, which frustrates him. sari-b_w150 Sari Dalena is an independent filmmaker from the Philippines. She obtained her Master’s degree in Film Production from the prestigious New York University graduate film program on a Fulbright scholarship. Her films have been screened at international film festivals and museums,
such as the Anthology Film Archives, the Smithsonian, the Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art, and have been reviewed by Variety, The New York Times, and Asia Times. Sari Dalena is the recipient of the Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship, Asian Cultural Council Fellowship, Starr Foundation Award, and the CCP 13 Artists Award.
jason150 Jason Moss is a freelance visual artist. He has exhibited his works here and abroad. He has mounted 18 one-man exhibits in Manila, and has done a 180 foot mural/installation at the Esplanade in Singapore. Moss also illustrates children’s books and has 30 titles to his name. He has also won a National Book Award for his work in Cinco de Noviembre, published in 2001. He is currently teaching graphic illustration for graphic designers in three schools and has also put up an apprenticeship program in his new studio he fondly calls “hydra.”
teta150 Teta Tulay is a cultural worker and educator who has received recognition from the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Video at Pelikula, Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI), and the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) for her works in animation and illustration. She is a member of Anino Shadowplay Collective, a group of artists devoted to the popularization of shadowplay in the country, and KASIBULAN (Kababaihan sa Sining at Bagong Sibol na Kamalayan), a women artists’ organization. She does multimedia work with award-winning activist group Southern Tagalog Exposure, and is the vice chair of Pinoy Animagination, a collective of independent animators who regularly facilitate workshops to propagate alternative and independent animation. She is currently extern moderator at the Ateneo De Manila Grade School, Fine Arts program coordinator at Kalayaan College, and lecturer at the University of the Philippines Film Institute.
edsel150 Edsel Tungol is the managing director of Unang Kumpanya Events and Production, Inc. He has 16 years of experience in computer graphics, 2D/3D animation and video production, while has ha a six-year experience in website development and IT Solutions. Edsel conceptualizes and does projects involving flash animation, website design and development, nonlinear video editing, visual effects, print media design, and interactive kiosk development.

Mayee150 Mayee Fabregas graduated from Miriam College Foundation with a degree in Communication Arts, and her first foray into Philippine television was via the comedy gag show, Champoy, with her mentor, Peque Gallaga. She has then worked for Philippine television for over two decades. She honed her skills as a producer in multimedia with the Philippine Children’s Television Foundation as line producer for the children’s show, Batibot. She then moved on to the ABS-CBN Foundation to produce more educational programs like Hirayamanawari, DetekKids, and Silip. She currently produces the new magazine/talk show Full Time Moms on QTV 11. Outside of television, she also handles events and audiovisual requirements for some NGOs and corporate clients. Away from the media, Mayee enjoys stirring up her creative juices at home with her children and her grandson. She is also a film and music buff.
Mark-Meily-formal150 Mark Meily is a two-time Palanca Literary Award Winner. He took up Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines before studying film at Mowelfund in Manila and at l’ESEC in Paris as a French government scholar. His three full-length features (Crying Ladies, La Visa Loca, Baler) are all award winners. His TV sitcom Camera Café recently won best comedy program in Asia at the Asian TV Awards in Singapore.
robertquilaodayopic150 Robert Quilao is the director of “Dayo, sa Mundo ng Elementalia,: the first fully-digital full-length animation feature film of the Philippines that was an official entry at the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival. The film has won four awards in the film fest, namely, best visual effects, best sound, best musical score and best festival theme song. “Dayo” is currently being screened in film festivals in different parts of the globe. Robert is also the in-house director of Cutting Edge Productions, the creator of Dayo.” Right now, he is working on several music projects and building his voice-over portfolio. Off-hours, “Chief,” as his peers know him, also plays bass guitar for an acoustic alternative band called Invocan, the electronica-rock band Wolfmann+, and is currently the front man and bass player for a rock band called Juan Lunar.
erwin-romulo150 Erwin Romulo is a writer and editor working in Metro Manila. Currently he is an associate editor for the Philippines Free Press (which he joined during its 100th year) and Uno, a popular men’s magazine. He also writes a weekly column for the Philippine Star.
Soya_San150 Satoshi Soya entered Toei Animation Co, Ltd. after graduating from university in 1986. He underwent training in the different stages of animation production. After which, he was assigned as production control assistant of Muscleman TV series, Muppet Babies TV series and Transformer Victory TV series. Later on, he was promoted to assistant director of Transformers Headmaster TV series and Transformers Master Force TV series. In 1992, he was assigned as representative of Toei in the newly formed joint venture, EEI-Toei Animation Corporation. He was part of the team that was instrumental in making EEI-Toei grow from a 25-personnel company to what it is today. In 2007, he was appointed president of Toei Animation Philippines, Inc., the only production subsidiary of Toei-Japan, and replacing Mr. Osamu Yoshioka.
